Final Part 1 of 2
Class/Self Evaluation

In my exploring computer science class, we have learned a lot. Something I enjoyed learning about the most is the quotes and leaning about how to make friends and how to communicate with others. I feel that this helped me because now i use the tips when i am talking to someone and I'm noticing a difference. There is nothing I don't like about this class. I enjoyed being in the class. I feel like I learn a lot and I like our teacher Mr. Haymore. To improve this class I feel that there is really nothing to be improved. It is a pretty easy class. I feel that I tried my best. When we did big assignments I did them to the best of my ability as well as, computer work in general. I am working on being a CTR person because no one is perfect and it will take time for me to always do the right thing. Since I am working in it I am going to commit to being a CTR person.

How to Win Friends and Influence People
(Six Ways to Make People like You. If you want people to like you...)

Rule 1: Become genuinely interested in other people.
1)“Do this and you will be welcome anywhere.”
2)“You can make more friends in two months by becoming interested in other people than you can in two years by trying to get other people interested in you.”
3)“Ask questions to other people, questions that they would enjoy answering.”
Image result for quote about being interested in others         Reflection:To me this quote means, focus on others and what they enjoy rather than what you like. Becoming friends requires listening skills. You need to be able to listen and take in what others say. Showing interest in others passions will automatically show how good you are at listening and how open-minded you are. When you ask what others like you can also ask further questions that will let they know how interested you are. And with this you will gain another friend. Then they will listen to you. For example, when you meet someone new ask them questions about what they like, get to know them. The will the questions you ask you can go further into the topic and you can learn what specifically they like or even any other activities they like to do, I will start showing more interest in other people and let they speak instead. I will be a good person by showing that I care.

Rule 2: Smile
1) "Actions speak louder than words, and a smile says, "I like you. You make me happy. I am glad to see you."
2) "You don't feel like smiling? Then force yourself to smile."
3)"It creates happiness in the home, fosters good will in a business, and is the countersign (witness or indication) of friends."
Reflection: When you meet someone you should smile. When you smile it will show that you care and you will automatically lighten the mood. Meeting someone and smiling can change their entire day this will let them know how happy you are to see them. An example of using this is for example, meeting someone new for the first time in class. Lets say you have to show them around and show them where their first class is. You can greet them and smile. Maybe even become friends with also using the first rule. You can smile and show interest in the things they like.I will start to do this when I greet or even look at someone. Maybe a smile can change someones entire day. This shows that you are a good person and you like to see others happy. I will make myself and others happy by smiling, even when I am not in the best mood. Along with a smile I will also show interest in a person I meet or even people I already know.

Rule 3: Remember names
1)"A man's name is to him the sweetest and most important sound in any language."
2) "If you don't remember names, you are headed for trouble."

Reflection: When you first meet someone the first thing you should ask is their name. You cannot be friend with someone without knowing their name. I like how in the above quote the author stresses how important it is to remember a name. This will get you more friends because when you remember names you will have an easier time talking and enjoying time with them. In order to be successful you need to know the people around you and their names. For example, if you are calling for a job, and the person on the other line stated their name, it is best to remember. Even something as simple as remembering names will get you far in life and give you opportunities. One little minor mistake can ruin something important. You should make sure you remember names so you have a better chance of making friends.

Rule 4: Be a good listener. Encourage others to talk about themselves.
 1) "If you aspire to be a good conversationalist, be an attentive listener."
2) "Remember that the man you are talking to is a hundred times more interested in himself and his wants and his problems than he is in you and your problems."

Reflection: When you are talking to someone they more than likely want to talk about themselves. If everyone in the world was like this i think the would would be a better place. When you make friends you want to know and learn about a person, rather than just talk about yourself. This will let the other person know you are interested in them and what they do. Letting them talk will let you know their interest and anything you two may have in common. For example, when you meet someone for the first time you would like to know their interest and hobbies. They will appreciate that you care about them. In the above quotes they are true, even I would like to talk about myself. I would like if someone asked me what my interests are. To apply this to myself I will be asking people I meet about what they like. This will teach me how to talk to others and learn about others.

Five steps for active listening:

  • Stay focused, don't judge, be patient and make direct eye contact
  • Really listen, don't think of what you will tell next
  • Allow for periods of silence, let the other person say something again
  • From time to time, repeat the other persons word or paraphrase it back to them
  • Understand the emotions behind the words, try to express their feeling

Rule 5: Talk in terms of the other man's interest.
"The royal road to a man's heart is to talk about the things he treasures the most."

Reflection: When you are speaking to someone they would much rather talk about themselves. When you talk about the other person, it will let them know you are interested in what they like. Even I would much rather talk about myself. When you actively listen you can apply this and show the other person that you care. Along with actively listening this will show the other person that you care. For example, when you are having a conversation, you can start the conversation by asking, "What are your interest?". Not only can you ask this but after that answer you can ask more questions on why they like that and further more get into greater detail. To apply this to myself I will start talking and asking questions about the other person. I will do this rather than just thinking about myself. This skill will help me when making new friends, talking to my friends or significant other, and even an interview. I will learn how to talk to the other person and also ask questions on the things they like.

Rule 6: Make the other person feel important-and do it sincerely.
"The desire to be important is the deepest urge in human nature."(John Dewey) "Helping people feel important and appreciated works magic."

Reflection: When you are speaking to a person, you will talk about their interests and make them feel important. In order to do this you can talk to them like you are interested in what they like. But be sincere when you talk to them and show that you care. If you show them that you care then you will be trusted and respected. That person will begin to love talking to you when you are interested in them. What I will do is I will start making the person I'm talking to feel important. I will create conversations based on what they like. This will help me make more friends and help me learn to start conversations.

Reflection: These "Six Ways to Make People Like You" are so crucial in learning how to communicate and make friends with others. You first need to become genuinely interested in the person. I was talking to my mom and i was asking her questions about her day. She seemed to want to talk to me. This made her want to tell me more about her day. When you become genuinely interested others will notice and  want to tell you more like about their interests, or even about their opinions on some things. They will trust you more. Smiling is also very important because this can instantly make a persons day. This can let a person know how important they are to you and this will help them trust you more. I smile at people so this allows them to feel like they can trust me. Remembering names can also help because when you remember names you will not forge the people you talk to. Listening is also very important because when you listen you can learn more about a person and you can even ask questions about what they like or anything else. I feel that when you ask questions this shows you are interested on what the other person likes. The last one is talking in terms of the other persons interest. What this does is encourages the other person to speak about what they like. This will later start more conversations and you will love talking to that person. I will apply the six ways to my life.

Glenn Cunningham
When Glenn was younger he suffered a terrible burn in his legs because of a fire. The doctor told him he may never walk again. But this did not stop him. He pushed through, he made two wonderful goals that would later come true. Even through there might have not been hope, Glenn made two goals, to become a doctor, and to be in the Olympics. When he was young he told his mother he had hope, and believe he would walk again know matter how hard it would be. He would pull through and try his best. Later on he was in the Olympics and ran and won a silver medal. Cunningham then became a doctor and a father of 10 children. He wanted to become a doctor so he could help others, and keep others happy. When life gets rough, you should have a heart and always believe in yourself just like Cunningham did. If it was not for his goals, positive attitude and the support from his family he would not have even tried. His wonderful story encourages me to be the best I can be. I have learned that know matter how hard the situation is I should have trust and hope in myself. Glenn Cunningham is an inspiration to many.

"The Six Attitudes of High Achievers"
(John R. Noe)

1. Make no small plans
Reflection: When you make no small plans, you strive to do your best. You will always believe you can do your best and be the best person you can be. When you set goals, you will not make small goals, you will make big goals and try your best. You will always do your best to succeed in making and accomplishing your goals. For example, when you make a small goal like go to the gym twice a week, you should challenge yourself to do as much as you can. When you push yourself to do more you will accomplish more. This will push you do to your best and motivate you to try your best in all that you do. Another example is when you want to pass your classes in school with B's you should push yourself and strive for A's. To do this i will change the way i think and always strive for more. If something will make me a better person i will always try.
Someone who achieved making, no small plans, was Steve Jobs. He was the co-founder of iPhone. He set a goal to create a new phone that many will purchase. He full-filled his goal. Its a big deal to have many buying your product.

2. Do what they fear
What this means is when you have a big goal and you and others think its impossible, you should try anyways. When you make a big goal like being in a movie, that's a big goal. It takes a lot of time and courage to put yourself out there. You have the risks of being rejected, and maybe receiving bad criticism. Other people might no have the courage to even try. But, if you believe in yourself and know you can do it, or even try, why not go for it. When others will be scared to try and think big, you can lead example and do anything you set your mind to. When you doubt yourself and you are scared to try anything big, you wont go far in life. You will no succeed because other people will try and you will be afraid. Never be afraid of what others have to say. Always try your best in all that you do and never doubt yourself. What I will do is I will not doubt myself and always full-fill my goals even if they are nearly impossible. As long as I try and I'm happy I'll always try my best.

3. Are you willing to prepare
Reflection: What this quote means is you need to be willing to go though whatever it is to accomplish your goals. When you are committed to pursuing your dreams and desires, you will go far in life. If you don't try your best to pursue your dreams you can miss opportunities and someone else will take them. You need to always think about your future and what you're going to accomplish. When you are willing to prepare you will try your hardest in everything you do, this will give you so many opportunities, and you will be very successful. For example, you don't just get accepted to college after high school. You need to receive good grades and try your best, you need to prepare yourself. When you prepare yourself you will be successful and you will be willing to do whatever it is to accomplish your goals. In my everyday life I will prepare myself so that in the future I can be very successful. I will push myself to do better always, and i will never doubt myself.

4. Are willing to risk failure
Reflection: When you are a high achiever, you will do anything to accomplish your goals, and you will not let anything stop you. When you are accomplishing your goals you may not be able to do something. This is called a fail. When you try your best you wont mind to fail at something. Even if you fail at doing something you will try again and maybe even try harder than you did the first time. An example is maybe studying for a test. Lets say you studied for 30 minutes and you feel your ready to take the test. When you take the test you receive a C. Next time you can try harder and get an A or B. You wont let one failure stop you. You will take the time to try harder and do more than expected. You wont let a bad grade hold you back. You will not fail and give up. You will fail and try again. In order to add this to my everyday life, I will never give up. When I have a dream or goal, I will do and try my hardest in order to accomplish it. If I fail then I will just try again and never give up. I will accept failure.

5. Are Teachable
Reflection: When you are teachable, you like to learn. When you like to learn new things then you will find life a lot easier. When you like to learn and you are teachable, you will intake knowledge and use it to your advantage. Learning new things can help you in many ways, like getting a job, having to teach others, and many other great opportunities. A way that you can be teachable is listen to the person that is helping you and teaching you. When asking questions, that can show how you are willing to learn. For example, students that get good grades are not only getting what they deserve but they get good grades because they have a desire to learn. When you love to learn you will have so much knowledge allowing you to be successful. With what you learn, you will be able to live happy, and you will be independent. What I will do is in class ask questions and never say I can't do something know matter how hard it is. I will ask for help when needed and I will always try my best to do anything and everything. I will also use all the skills I learn at school in the future when i have a career.

6. Have Heart
Reflection: Having heart can mean a series of things. When you have heart you care about others. In order to be successful in life, you need to have a heart and treat others with respect. Another aspect of having heart is giving back. This involves giving back yo your community, when you give back you receive as well. When you are a good person, you will go far in life. This means you are nice to everyone and you care for others. An example of having heart would be, donating your old clothes or even helping the homeless. When you do these things you will feel good inside. Another example is when you see someone having a bad day, you should comfort them. When you have a heart you are a positive person and see the good in people and everything around you. You know right from wrong and respect others. I will start appreciating everything, and I will also do community service so that I could give back to my community.  I will have heart.

Overall Reflection: We have been working on The Six Attitudes of High Achievers, we are working on how we will take this and learn from this. For the first one, make no small plans, I will always try my best to do my best. I will always try to have confidence and always make sure when I have something I want to accomplish, I will Challenge myself and always do more than expected. I will also do what everyone else fears meaning I will always take risks and do something that others think they cannot. I will always try my best and accomplish anything I put my mind to. I will also be willing to prepare, that means I will always try to prepare myself for anything know matter how big or how small the task is. When I try to accomplish goals I will always accept that i may fail or not accomplish my goals. I will also be good at school and I will be teachable. I will always ask question and keep my grades up. Even for future reference, when I am working I will learn new skills. For the rest of my life i will have heart. I will treat others with respect and be a caring person. I will also give back to my community. I will be the best person I can be.

Way To Be

9 Ways to be Happy and Make Something of your Life

Gordon B. Hinckley

1. Be Grateful
Reflection: When you are grateful, you appreciate everything you have. Know matter how much or how little. When you are grateful it doesn't matter what others think. You can only be positive. To me being grateful will make you a better person with yourself and others. For example, when your parents give you something like a phone or anything else, you should be thankful for everything you have even though it might not be much. Show your parents that you appreciate the things you have, and show them how much you love them.

Quote: "Be grateful for small things, big things, and everything in between.

2. Be Smart
Reflection: What it means to be smart is to learn and educate yourself. Without an education how will you accomplish your goals? You won't. If you want to be successful you need to do well in school and make something of yourself. If you do really bad in school you wont know much about life in general. There are more important things to worry about like education.

Image result for smart picture of someone being smartQuote: "Before you can work smart you must work hard." (Unknown)

3. Be Involved in Good Works
Reflection: When you are involved in good works this means you are a good person and are kind to people around you. You will take peoples feelings into consideration as well as, even working for your community. This has to do a lot with being a good person in general and doing things for others. Community service and helping anyone who needs help is doing good work. For example, when you are in high school community service is required and you need to do it for a specific amount of hours. This is very helpful to the community and this will make you a better person for helping others.

Quote: "Work for a cause not for applause. Live life to express, not to impress. Don't strive to make your presence noticed, just make your absence felt."
-Unknown

4. Be Clean
Image result for being a clean personReflection: When I think of being clean I think of being pure. Having a pure mind and keep positive thoughts. I feel that when you are being clean you stay away from drugs and alcohol and keeping your body healthy. You should also stay away from bad language and surround yourself with good people as well. Being a clean person will allow you to have many opportunities because with being clean you will be a better person. When your mind is pure and you feel like you are the best person you can be you will be rewarded. In order to use this new way i will stay away from bad people and i will try my best to stay away from all the bad things in life that will stop me from being successful. I will also stay away from drugs and alcohol and piercings, along with tattoos and language.
Image result for being a clean person quote

5. Be True
Image result for being true pictureReflection: Being true can relate and mean several things. To me this means, be true to yourself. When you are a liar and disobey rules or laws, your not being truthful to yourself. Knowing right from wrong can also relate because when you lie to yourself about the kind of person you are you will never improve. Being true can change the way you think of yourself and the world around you. Only you can help yourself.  In this quote it is simply saying to be yourself and be true and follow your dreams. For example, just because everyone else is doing something doesn't mean you have to just to be better or impress anyone. To apply this to myself, I will be true to myself and i wont change for the worse just so people can like me. I will be true.

"Being true to yourself is better than being a liar to impress everyone."
(unknown)

6. Be Positive
Reflection: It is always good to stay positive. When you stay positive you will always thing your best. When you are a negative person you wont really achieve goals in life. For example, when you are negative with a goal like getting good grades, you wont believe you can achieve it. Since you always think negative, you won't believe in yourself. Whereas a positive person would stay positive and go on to achieve the goal. When you are a positive person you will be rewarded because without being positive you will never push yourself to do and be a better person. What i will do to be positive is always think to myself that nothing is to hard and I will do my best and stay happy. I will always look at the bright side of things. When I start to think negative i will try to keep the good things in life in mind.

7. Be Humble
Reflection: Being humble is a quality you must have to be happy. When you are humble you appreciate and respect everything and everyone you have. Being a humble person can also change the way you see the world and change the way you see the people around you. For example a humble person would be appreciative of everything he or she has. lets say you have a phone that you have had for a year, and a new phone came out and everyone had it. If you are unhappy with the one you have or you really want to be like someone else then you are not a humble person. If this is you, you should change the way you see things because being humble means you care and appreciate even the little things in life. What I will do to apply this to everyday life is I will stay humble and appreciate everything my parents do for me as well as appreciate other little things. i will also respect everyone and take there emotions into consideration.

                         8. Be Still
Reflection: Being still can mean to not move, but this has a deeper meaning. This is having to do with being a peaceful and a good minded person. The opposite of this would be violence, drugs, alcohol, and other helpful things. Being still is being kind. When you are kind you are a nice person and treat everyone with respect. You always try your best to be a humble person and find ways to make others happy. An example of being still is, when your parent gives you something, you should appreciate it and thank him or her. The opposite of being still is if your parents works hard to give you what you want and you don't appreciate it and you wish u had something better. Be humble and appreciate. I will start being still in my everyday life by showing how much i care for everyone in my life. I wont get in fights or do drugs and do any other nonsense. When yo are humble and still you will see there is more to appreciate in life ad you will be thankful for everything you have.

9. Be prayerful

Reflection about the 9 ways:
In class we have learned about the 9 ways to make something of your life. I have learned a lot ad how i should be to be successful with others. The first way is being grateful, in order to be grateful I will learn to be thankful for everything I have and be grateful of all the great things people do for me. I will appreciate life and take it one day at a time. I will be happy and treat others the way I want to be treated. Being smart will also help me in life, I will be smart in every choice I make. I will stay away from bad things and bad people in order to keep myself on the rights track. Being involved in great works will show me how to appreciate what I have because i will be helping others. I will do community service, and i will try to make others in my community happy as well. Another thing I will do is be clean. In order to do this I need to get rid of all the bad people in my life. I will stay away from all the bad things that will hold me back from reaching goals and being a good person in general. I will also be truthful by telling the truth and accepting the truth. Being a positive person helps too, because when you are positive you will make the best out of everything and this will help with problem solving. I will be a humble person and i will be happy with what I have and i will appreciate everything. I will treat others with respect. Being still is being a peaceful person and this will help you when you nee to solve problems you may have. This can also deal with being patience. Lastly, i will be prayerful. In my opinion praying can and will help you. When you pray at least once a day, you will feel a sense of comfort and happiness.
