Memorial Day

Memorial Day falls on the 30th of May. What this holiday is, is a day to remember all of the active military people who have given their life for our country. Some towns have Memorial Day parade to show honor to the past veterans that have passed away. Your family and friends can get together and think about why they have the freedom they have. People can celebrate by having cookouts, parties and just simply having their family or friends over. My sister is active in the military, she is in the navy. I will thank her for her service thus far. I will also remember all the vets that have given their lives for our country. I am happy to live a free life, and I am happy and grateful for the freedom I have.

                     Becoming Your Best:
The 12 Principals of Highly Successful Leaders

1. Be true to character.

Reflection: This will come in handy when meeting new people, having a conversation, and making yourself feel better. When you are true to character, you try to be the best you can be, this will help with making yourself a better person. When you meet someone new to should be the best [person you can be, like being polite, nice, caring, and overall have great qualities. Having great qualities will make you a better person and you will see that if you stay true to character you will make new friends and be happy with yourself. On thing I will do is try to be the best person I can be, I will make sure I am kind, and caring and stay true to who I am.

Quote: "If you want to be trusted, be honest. If you want to be honest, be true. If you want to be true, be yourself." (Unknown)

2. Use your imagination

Reflection: When you are wanting to do something that you want to accomplish, you should imagine yourself succeeding. This will motivate you to complete your goal. When you imagine that you have completed your goal its a great way to help push you to do better. Whenever I  am thinking about completing my goal, I read it from my goal journal but, not only that I also try to imagine me and how proud I would be. When I feel proud that motivates me. Imagine how proud you will feel to have completed a goal. Try doing this and you will try even harder to complete your goal.

3. Apply the power of knowledge

4. Never give up

Reflection: Even when or if you do not succeed, you should keep trying. If you keep trying and trying until you succeed you are very likely to become a better person and a successful person. When you keep trying others will know you are a hard working person. When you looking for a job never giving up will really help you. When you have a great mentality you will know and have it stuck in your head to be a great person and never give up. For example, when you are trying to do a math problem for homework, you should wait to copy because that is dishonest. What you should do is keep trying, look online for help, or find other resources. You should never give up. I will apply this when I am working on school assignments and my day to day life.

5. Find peace and balance

Reflection: When you want to be a successful leader you should try your best to be the best person you can be. You should find balance and peace. A way you can find balance and peace in everyday life is when you are arguing with someone. The best thing to do is always find a balance that will best suit both of you. If this doesn't work then you should not fight, you should try to resolve this by finding peace to make both happy. Finding peace is when you try to solve the conflict by saying sorry, and what YOU can do better next time. Not only this, but when you are trying to solve it you should resolve it because you will be the bigger person. This will make you a better person and you will know how to solve conflicts the right way for the rest of your life.

                         6. Live the Golden Rule

Reflection:What this rule means is, "Treat others the way you want to be treated". When you want to be treated in a great way and you want to feel happy everyday. The you need to treat others the same! Whenever you are speaking to someone you should always be nice and treat them with respect. If you do this you are likely to be way happier, and you will make the other person happy as well. What I will do is speak to others with respect and always smile because that will make me a happier person and the other person will be happy as well. I will use and live the golden rule.

7. Build and maintain trust

Reflection: When you want someones trust you need to earn it. When you gain someones trust that means they will have faith in telling you something about them. They believe you can keep secrets, give good advice, and be a great friend. When you have qualities of a great friend people will trust you more because you are a great person. I think building trust is a great habit to have especially if you want to make a lot of friends. when you gain someones trust do not break that trust! That is very unfriendly and very irresponsible! What I will do is always gain my friends, family or others trust. But, I will maintain their trust!

8. Quick to listen slow to wrath

Reflection: When you are in an argument you should not be quick to judge. The reason why is because when you just get mad and you dont listen you will never be patient or caring. When you try to understand and actually put effort to make things better this really helps. When you are quick to judge you are impatient and you will loose friends. You should listen to a person explanation. Just because people are telling you that someone has been talking about you does not mean they have. In my opinion when someone actually listens to me it makes me feel better about myself and helps me get my point across. Do not believe what others tell you and always be patient and quick to listen, but be slow to wrath. Do not get mad, listen first.

9. Lead with vision

Reflection: This is a great statement that really has to do with day to day life. When you are a prepared person and you will always have plans in what you want to do in life. Especially when you have goals and things you want to do/accomplish. This will automatically help you with leadership skills. When you are planning your life you want to make sure you can motivate yourself and envision completing that goal. In my goal journal I wrote down I wanted to make it into cheer. When we were at practice I tried my very best and I motivated myself and I told myself  I will complete it. When I was envisioning myself making on to the team I was very persistent and I knew with a lot of dedication I would get there.  Guess what, with this dedication, I made the team! I wrote and thought about this goal everyday and now I am a cheerleader!

10. Manage with a plan

Reflection: When you are wanting to accomplish a goal, it is best to make sure you know the steps you will take. Making sure you have a plan, will help you become more successful. For example in Mr. Haymore's class we have a life planning notebook. We write our goals and we also have a journal that helps us keep track of how we complete our goals. This really makes you think about your goals and really keeps track of how many you complete. When i complete a goal by planning I always try to give small rewards to motivate me. What I will do is I will keep writing in my goal journal and also, make sure I write and keep track of my progress.

11. Do what matters most

Reflection: What this means to me is always do the most important things first. You should always focus on things that will help you and make you a better person. When you do all the important things first you will surly be a successful person. When you have the choice of going out with friends or studying for a test. It is always best to do what is most important. I this case, studying for a test is more important. When you take your time to do as many important things as you can, because there is enough time for everything. You just need to focus on what matters most.

12. Be accountable

Reflection: When you do something you should take full responsibility weather it be good or bad. When you are accountable you are different or have an opinion. If all you do is worry about others opinions and you never speak out about the work you do, what good will it do? For example owning up to something makes you accountable, just like if you make as mistake. For example, if your parents ask you if you have studied and you have not, you should own up to it and say you haven't. When you own up to what you do people will respect you and will want to be friends because this will make you a better person. When I do something I will always try to be accountable for everything I do. I will also accept the consequences if I don't. I will be accountable.

The Ten Tips

Ten Tips To Be More Truthful
By: Barbara A. Lewis

1. Make a commitment to tell the truth.
2. Tell someone about your commitment.
Reflection: When you are always telling the truth, you are a great person. People will trust you more and you will overall feel better about yourself. If you are not honest and truthful then how will you and others feel. It doesn't matter the situation, if you don't tell the truth there will be consequences. When I am told to do something and I dont do it, I know that lying will only make things worse. I want the people in my life to be able to trust me. When you make a commitment to always saying the truth, you will notice how much of a happier person you are. What I will do is say the truth. I will try my hardest to be truthful even if I know there will be consequences. Once I do this I will tell my parents how I will change in regards to telling the truth.

3. Think before you give a dishonest answer, explanation, sarcasm, or reason.
Reflection: Whenever you tell a lie you need to think about all the consequences. Not only this but how do you expect people to trust you. One thing you should never do is lie to your parents. This can cause so many consequences. It is better to tell the truth know matter the situation. When you lie you risk what people think about you, and you risk the kindness of others. If you lie then people will lie to you. Imagine if everyone lied! What kind of world would this be. Whereas if everyone in the world told the truth! What I will do to change is I will make sure I tel;l the truth know matter what it is. I will also think before my actions, and think before i say anything dishonest. I want people to trust me and I want others to always tell me the truth. This will make me a great family member, friend, and acquaintance.

4. Be careful of when and how you use exaggeration, sarcasm, or irony.

Reflection: It is not okay to talk back to anyone. When you use exaggeration, sarcasm or irony, it is bad behavior and you will not be liked by some people. When you do this it can be bad and cause you to loose friends, or even just trust. If you are speaking to an adult and you talk back for the wrong reasons, you can be punished. When I speak to anyone I will not use exaggeration, sarcasm, or irony because this can hurt others and hurt myself. I do not want to loose peoples trust, and I don't want to hurt others either.

5. Be careful not to twist the truth or leave out part of it.

Reflection: When you are telling the truth and you leave something out, you are still lying. When you are telling the truth it is good it include all the details because if not this can result in a bad consequence. For example, if you are at a parent conference in school and you tell your guardian you always complete your assignments, but you have missed about 3, you should say the whole truth. Even if you do say you complete all your assignment, you still have a few missing. What I will do is try my best not to twist the truth, and always try my best to be a good person. I know that doing this will make me a better person.

6. Don't indulge in little white lies.

Reflection; Lying is a really irresponsible thing to do, know matter how big or small of a lie. Even a little lie can lead to big consequences. When you are told to do something and you know what you're about to say is a lie, stop and think about the consequences, not only towards other people but yourself to. An example of telling a little white lie is, for example, . If your parents left you at home and asked you to clean your room. They call to check on you and you told them you were done when you weren't. Even if you did do it before they got home, lying is still lying you keep telling lies it will become your lifestyle and you will be a custom to lying. What I will do is not lie to anyone. I will always be responsible and say the truth.

7. Watch out for silent lies.

Reflection: When you know someone is lying you should just either point it out or drop it. When someone lies that's because they are not always truthful, and it will be hard for them to be. For example, when you hear someone talking bad about another person, but they are not directly telling you, it is best to confront them and tell them to stop lying. You wont know if it is a lie for sure, but its not okay to talk bad about anyone.

8. When you catch yourself lying, throw your mouth into reverse.

Reflection:

9. Talk to yourself

Reflection: Lying is wrong and you should never lie. This is a strong statement because your conscious will help with all the decisions you make. If before you lie, you tell yourself in your head that lying is wrong and you rethink what your about to lie about. For example, if you are watching TV, and you have not finished your homework. If your mother asks if you're done with your homework, stop and think about it. If you are about to lie you should ask yourself if it is the right thing to do. Then you should tell then truth and do your homework.

10. Treat yourself when you tell the truth

Each time you tell the truth you should feel good about it. When you are asked a question and tell a lie how do you expect to feel? You will feel like a liar and feel really bad after. But when you are telling the truth you will feel really good about it. Just imagine you are watching one of your friends cheats on a test and the teacher asks if you say the person cheat. Is cheating the right thing to do? No. So what you need to do is tell the truth and make sure you feel good about it. Reward yourself mentally or even materialistically. You can go and get some ice cream and feel good about telling the truth.

"How the Internet Works"

   "How the Internet Works"

Reflection: What I learned while watching the videos in the Khan Academy website is how we are able to use the internet. When we use the internet it travels at the speed of light! What fascinates me the most is how data is not stored in one place. When you look something up online your computer or other device gets information from the place where they store data. They also use binary codes to make the different programs and each electronic has its own IP address. It connects to the servers that have different websites. All data is not stored in one place.

10 Keys to Personal Power
Brian Tracy

Key 1: Clarity
Quote: "Have vision. Determine what you want to be, do or have in life. Have a sense of direction and know where you're going. If you do not have clear specific goals in life, you are doomed forever to work for others who do."

Reflection: This is the first key to personal power. First and foremost, you will need to know what you want to do with your life otherwise, you will not know in what direction to go. When you plan out your life you will have a clear understanding on what exactly you want to do with your life. Just like in this quote, if you do not know what you want to do, then you will spend your life working for others who have taken the time to plan out their life. You will miss opportunities and you will have nothing to look forward to, like accomplishing goals. Just like in our life planning notebooks, our teacher Mr. Haymore is teaching us how to plan out our lives. As long as we try then we can accomplish anything. I will always try to be clear of what I want to do and I will continue writing in my goals book.

Key 2: Competence
Quote: "If you commit to competence, opportunities will always come your way. The harder you work, the better you get."

Reflection: This quote reminds me of my math class, I am failing my math class but I am still determined. I stay for tutoring and I work very hard to complete all my work. In this quote it is saying if you really want something you must work hard for it and you must always try your best. If you always try your best you will succeed and you will accomplish your goals. In my life planning book I wrote down how I want to bring my grade up to at least a B. This will be very hard for me but I am very determined. I really want to make my parents proud. I will always commit to completing a task, and or anything I want to accomplish.

Key 3: Concentration
Quote:"Make the best use of your time. Ask yourself "Is this the best use of my time?" before you start anything."

\Reflection: Whenever you are about to do something you should always ask yourself if you are doing what you are suppose to and will it benefit you. When you are distracted and no focused on what you are suppose to be doing, this will slow you down and you will have a harder time accomplishing goals and loose concentration. What I will do is I will try to always stay focused and ask myself, If what I am doing will benefit me. I will always try to stay on task and complete my work and listen to teachers and my parents. This will hopefully make me a better person and it will help with picking up my grades.

Key 4:Creativity
Quote: "Except the fact that every human being is a genius. The hallmark of creativity is asking questions. The people who are most  creative ask the most questions."

Reflection: What this quote means to me is every single person in the world has the abilities and power to do what they want. Everyone is smart. No one is better than anyone else. Being creative can help you accomplish your goals and asking questions can help as well. When you are doing something you should never be afraid to ask for help. When you ask questions you let your creativity flow. This also helps you learn new things you never knew. I feel that when you ask questions you are showing how much you care.

Key 5: Consideration
Quote: "The quality of your relationships with other people will determine your success in life."
"Developethe people skills you need to become a better communicator. Take the courses in listening speaking, etc."
"If you were to learn one new word a day, within 5 years, you'll be the best educated person in history."

Reflection: When you are talking to someone you should always consider what they like, and how they feel. If you do this you are sure to make more friends and be a better person. People will want to talk to you more and you will be a well-rounded person that everyone will like and they will want to talk to you. What I will do to apply this is I will make sure when I'm talking to someone I will make sure I know how they feel. I will always be caring. If more people like you you will be very successful. Even when completing little things because people will like you so much you will have a lot of accomplishments.

Key 7: Consistency
Quote: "Dependable, steady predictable work is always superior to fast spurts of work."
"Be consistent in your relationships, your family, friends, your boss, your work.  Be the person that people can depend upon. That if you say you'll do something you'll do it."

Reflection: What this quote means is when you are constantly doing something important like work, school, family, etc. Then you are a reliable person and people know that can come to you. You should learn how to manage your time and put the most important things first. For example, when you say you'll do something, a responsible person will do it. This will make you a better person and more people will like you. When you learn to manage your time, your loved ones and friends will thank you. You will show you are truly a good person.

Key 8: Commitment
Quote: "No success is possible without commitment. The ability to commit yourself whole heartily is the basis  of achieving all success."
"Become totally absorbed in your work. Be totally committed."

Reflection: Whenever you are committed to something you will let nothing stand in your way. When I get older and i have a job i will be committed to my job and completing tasks. Not only then but, even now that I am in school, I will stay committed to my studies. I think, if you are committed to tasks and goals for the rest of your life, you will live a long happy life. You will have achieved everything you ever wanted. I will try my best to stay committed and make sure if I say I will do something I will do it.

Key 9: Courage
Quote: "The fear of failure is the single greatest reason for failure."

Reflection" This word already means a lot. This word is something I need to improve in. I am always scared of failure and I shouldn't be but when it comes to trying new things I won't. What I want to do is join a sport but I am scared of not achieving that goal. I need to gather all the courage I have because if I don't try then how will I know. In my goals, one of my goals is to join a sport. If I think I will fail, then it probably will happen. I need to think positive.

Key 10: Confidence
Quote: "You only get confidence by doing things over and over again."

Reflection: When you have confidence, you won't let anything stand in your way. When you want to accomplish something it is best to have confidence and believe in yourself. When I am going to take a test I lack confidence because I never believe in myself. If I change that as well as my study habits I am sure to succeed! That is something I would change about myself.

Final Reflection: This series really taught me how I could become a better person. This will help me with accomplishing goals and help me with my confidence. I know there will be conflicts along the way but I will accomplish my goals either way. I want to make sure I try my best and I will not let anything stand in the way. I want to be able to do things by myself and be independent. I will apply these 10 keys to everything I do. Something right now is my math class that is holding me back. I will make sure I try my best and use all 10 keys to insure a great success!

The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People
 Stephen R. Covey

Habit 1: Be proactive
Quote: "Habit 1 is they key to unlocking all the other habits and that's why it comes first. It says,"I am the captain of my life. I can choose my attitude. I'm responsible for my own happiness or unhappiness. I am in the driver's seat of my destiny, not just a passenger."

Reflection: People who are full of imagination. They choose the right and are able to choose whats right. Not only that but they are able to control and choose the kind of attitude they want. They always consider others, and worry about their, and others well-being. In the quote about Covey stresses how important being proactive is. This is surely something everyone needs to learn to be a better person. This will show you how to control the way you are towards others. What I will do to apply this habit is learn how to treat others with respect and also get to know myself as a person more. I will learn how to control my attitude. This will make me an effective person. I want people to trust me and respect me as well.

Habit 2: Begin with the end in mind
Quote: "Control your own destiny or someone else will." (Jack Welch)

Reflection:This can mean planning goals ahead of time and trying your best to fulfill them. You will always see things in a creative way and always remember the end in mind. You will always be determined and you will try your best to complete tasks and doing things that benefit you. You should always find things you like about yourself and always make sure you make yourself happy by doing the things you love. This quote says a lot, when you don't do what you want because your shy and you feel like you cannot do something, someone who is determined will steal that from you. Always try your best and with that, I will try my best and always plan goals ahead of time.

Habit 3: Put first things first
Quote:"Organize and execute around priorities."

Reflection: This is a habit everyone should have in order to be successful. When you are a person who always keeps priorities in mind and you accomplish them, you are someone who will go far in life. When you are organized and always try your best to get things done, you are someone who tries their best. One time I wanted to go out with my friends but, i had to take care of my little sister. My mom told me it was okay to go out but I did not want to leave my sister at home, so i decided to stay because it was my priority. It was something that had to be done. I'm glad i decided to do the right thing. What I will do is try to put the important things first rather than what I want to do, like go out with friends. If I have homework or chores to do I will make those a priority first. This will help me become a better person and I will really look forward to trying my best. I will also put school and my family first because those should be my priorities.

Habit 4: Think Win-Win
Quote:"Think Win-Win or no deal."

Reflection: This quote means a lot because without thinking you can always win, you will not have the right mind set. When you make a goal the right thing to do is to always think positive and always tell yourself you will make it. Otherwise you will never accomplish your goals. This can be compared to everyday life. When you are in school and you have a big exam, you should study and commit, and also in your mind tell yourself you can do it. Without this you will not accomplish your goal. What I will do is I will always think positive and always try my best. Not only that but I will always commit to my goals and always "Think Win-Win".

Habit 5: Seek First to Understand, then to be Understood

Quote:"Diagnose before you prescribe."

Reflection: The only way you will understand is if you listen to others. Listening to others can help with your self. When you are learning a new skill for example, you cannot teach what you are learning until you really understand. What I will do is I will always ask questions until I really understand. This will make me a more positive and helpful -person. I will be able to be understood and I will train myself to understand others.

Habit 6: Synergize

Quote: "The whole is greater than the sum of  its parts (1+1=3)."

Reflection: What this quote means to me is being positive and cooperation. When you are working as a team I think you should always stay positive and have good sportsmanship. When you are for example, playing a soccer game, it is good to stay positive, winning is not everything as long as you try and you are having fun. You should always respect your teammates. What I will do is while working in a group I will always have fun and try to make my teammates feel special. I will work well with others!

Habit 7: Sharpen the saw

Quote: Four Dimensions of Self-Renewal: Physical, Mental, Spiritual, Social/Environmental

Reflection: From what I know, when you sharpen the saw you try to balance everything from family to your own health. In the picture for example, I will use what the picture is saying so that I can understand what sharpen the saw means. In this picture, you can see it means sort of a balance. It is saying the body is pure, clean, as in health. It also means, take he time to help others in any way you can! Balancing yourself and family will bring you closer together. Also, having an open mind is beneficial and wanting to learn. When you want to learn you can learn new things, you balance this with everything else like family and yourself. This will make you a stronger person and you will be able to balance everything you have. This can be compared to school, in school you have to learn and sometimes you get packed with homework but if you manage your time well, then you can balance all the other important things in life.

Overall Reflection:
What I learned while learning "The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People", I learned how to be a better person. When we were learning about how to apply these i learned how to make more friends and how to be a better person. I will always apply these habits because i would like to be friendly and an overall great person.

Three Fundamental Techniques in Handling People

Technique 1: Don't criticize, condemn or complain.
Quote: "If you want to gather honey, don't kick over the beehive."

Reflection: When you are talking to someone you do not want to give the impression that you are annoyed or bored while having a conversation. When someone enjoys doing something you don't, you shouldn't criticize because then you will hurt the other person and they will not trust you or maybe even like you. I feel that when you are talking to someone you need to show interest, If you want to gain friends you need to show that you are interested. When you judge a person it makes them feel as though you don't like them because of the things they like. What I will do is I will not judge or criticize when I am talking to them because I would like to be trusted and a good friend. I want people to like talking to me. I feel that I would like to be spoken to without being judged on the things that I like. I would like to gain more friends so I will do this so I can.

Technique 2: Give honest and sincere appreciation
Quote: "The big secret in dealing with people"

Reflection: This is such a powerful statement and I feel that when someone takes the time to talk to you and you are having a great conversation of the things you like, you should really appreciate. I think when you are appreciative of the people around you, you will treasure the moment more and feel loved. I need to learn how to appreciate the things I have and the people who are in my life. When I am speaking with others I should really honestly show how much I care. What I will do is be honest with others and show them how I really fee. I cannot just ignore the good people in my life because otherwise I wouldn't get anywhere. To apply this new technique I will also try to not criticize or complain when I am speaking to someone. I will learn how to give honest and sincere appreciation.

Technique 3: Arouse in the other person an eager want.
Quote: "He who can do this has the whole world with him. He who cannot, walks a lonely way."

Reflection: When you are speaking to someone you should speak to them like you really want to. Get excited and ask about the other person. Ask about things they like. When doing this it will surly make the other person happy. They will feel like you really do care. I will learn to be nice and be eager to talk to someone. For example, when I'm in an interview I will be eager to talk to the interviewer. When I feel eager I will not be as shy. This is because I want to tell the person things about me and my accomplishments. I will learn to be eager and talk to people more, I will also give honest and sincere appreciation. Along with, not criticizing and complaining. I will be a better person wen it comes to communication and making friends.

Overall Reflection:
In "The Three Fundamental Techniques in Handling People", I have learned a lot about speaking to others. When i talk to someone I will not criticize, condemn or complain. I will make sure I am as nice as I can be, and I will also make sure that I am honest. I will be honest and give sincere appreciation. I will not forgot to appreciate because when I talk to someone it will make them feel better and they will trust me more. I will also arouse the other person an eager want. I will get excited to talk to them. I will follow these three steps.
    School Break Days
What I did during the break was sleep until 11:00 am. For Christmas we had a dinner at my house and invited a few relatives. When we have a Christmas dinner we make Thanksgiving food like turkey and ham. Christmas eve is when we had our dinner. When It was about 9:00 pm, we all gathered around the living room and opened presents some things that I got was a karaoke machine, headphones, candy, and a heart necklace. We got a lot of presents but the biggest present of all was a family road trip. We went to Las Vegas and stayed at the Stratosphere hotel. It was huge! Unfortunately the rides were closed so we did not get to go on. Other than that it was really fun because there was a mini mall with a lot of places to eat and shop. I read a book by Shane Dawson titled, I Hate My Selfie. This book has a chapter where I tear up and start crying because it is about the passing of his grandmother. Other than that sad chapter along with other sad ones the book has comedy in its sadness. I worked on the IDP during the vacation. This only took a couple hours of my day. There was a man who was homeless and very nice, I gave him some money, and when we were at the hotel someone dropped their belongings and I helped pick everything up. They were happy when I helped. I enjoyed the three week vacation and the time I spent with my family.
