Becoming Your Best:
The 12 Principals of Highly Successful Leaders

Reflection: This will come in handy when meeting new people, having a conversation, and making yourself feel better. When you are true to character, you try to be the best you can be, this will help with making yourself a better person. When you meet someone new to should be the best [person you can be, like being polite, nice, caring, and overall have great qualities. Having great qualities will make you a better person and you will see that if you stay true to character you will make new friends and be happy with yourself. On thing I will do is try to be the best person I can be, I will make sure I am kind, and caring and stay true to who I am.
6. Live the Golden Rule
Reflection:What this rule means is, "Treat others the way you want to be treated". When you want to be treated in a great way and you want to feel happy everyday. The you need to treat others the same! Whenever you are speaking to someone you should always be nice and treat them with respect. If you do this you are likely to be way happier, and you will make the other person happy as well. What I will do is speak to others with respect and always smile because that will make me a happier person and the other person will be happy as well. I will use and live the golden rule.
7. Build and maintain trust

Reflection: When you want someones trust you need to earn it. When you gain someones trust that means they will have faith in telling you something about them. They believe you can keep secrets, give good advice, and be a great friend. When you have qualities of a great friend people will trust you more because you are a great person. I think building trust is a great habit to have especially if you want to make a lot of friends. when you gain someones trust do not break that trust! That is very unfriendly and very irresponsible! What I will do is always gain my friends, family or others trust. But, I will maintain their trust!
8. Quick to listen slow to wrath
Reflection: When you are in an argument you should not be quick to judge. The reason why is because when you just get mad and you dont listen you will never be patient or caring. When you try to understand and actually put effort to make things better this really helps. When you are quick to judge you are impatient and you will loose friends. You should listen to a person explanation. Just because people are telling you that someone has been talking about you does not mean they have. In my opinion when someone actually listens to me it makes me feel better about myself and helps me get my point across. Do not believe what others tell you and always be patient and quick to listen, but be slow to wrath. Do not get mad, listen first.
9. Lead with vision
Reflection: This is a great statement that really has to do with day to day life. When you are a prepared person and you will always have plans in what you want to do in life. Especially when you have goals and things you want to do/accomplish. This will automatically help you with leadership skills. When you are planning your life you want to make sure you can motivate yourself and envision completing that goal. In my goal journal I wrote down I wanted to make it into cheer. When we were at practice I tried my very best and I motivated myself and I told myself I will complete it. When I was envisioning myself making on to the team I was very persistent and I knew with a lot of dedication I would get there. Guess what, with this dedication, I made the team! I wrote and thought about this goal everyday and now I am a cheerleader!
10. Manage with a plan
Reflection: When you are wanting to accomplish a goal, it is best to make sure you know the steps you will take. Making sure you have a plan, will help you become more successful. For example in Mr. Haymore's class we have a life planning notebook. We write our goals and we also have a journal that helps us keep track of how we complete our goals. This really makes you think about your goals and really keeps track of how many you complete. When i complete a goal by planning I always try to give small rewards to motivate me. What I will do is I will keep writing in my goal journal and also, make sure I write and keep track of my progress.
11. Do what matters most
Reflection: What this means to me is always do the most important things first. You should always focus on things that will help you and make you a better person. When you do all the important things first you will surly be a successful person. When you have the choice of going out with friends or studying for a test. It is always best to do what is most important. I this case, studying for a test is more important. When you take your time to do as many important things as you can, because there is enough time for everything. You just need to focus on what matters most.
12. Be accountable
Reflection: When you do something you should take full responsibility weather it be good or bad. When you are accountable you are different or have an opinion. If all you do is worry about others opinions and you never speak out about the work you do, what good will it do? For example owning up to something makes you accountable, just like if you make as mistake. For example, if your parents ask you if you have studied and you have not, you should own up to it and say you haven't. When you own up to what you do people will respect you and will want to be friends because this will make you a better person. When I do something I will always try to be accountable for everything I do. I will also accept the consequences if I don't. I will be accountable.
The 12 Principals of Highly Successful Leaders
1. Be true to character.
Quote: "If you want to be trusted, be honest. If you want to be honest, be true. If you want to be true, be yourself." (Unknown)
2. Use your imagination
Reflection: When you are wanting to do something that you want to accomplish, you should imagine yourself succeeding. This will motivate you to complete your goal. When you imagine that you have completed your goal its a great way to help push you to do better. Whenever I am thinking about completing my goal, I read it from my goal journal but, not only that I also try to imagine me and how proud I would be. When I feel proud that motivates me. Imagine how proud you will feel to have completed a goal. Try doing this and you will try even harder to complete your goal.
3. Apply the power of knowledge
4. Never give up

Reflection: Even when or if you do not succeed, you should keep trying. If you keep trying and trying until you succeed you are very likely to become a better person and a successful person. When you keep trying others will know you are a hard working person. When you looking for a job never giving up will really help you. When you have a great mentality you will know and have it stuck in your head to be a great person and never give up. For example, when you are trying to do a math problem for homework, you should wait to copy because that is dishonest. What you should do is keep trying, look online for help, or find other resources. You should never give up. I will apply this when I am working on school assignments and my day to day life.
5. Find peace and balance
Reflection: When you want to be a successful leader you should try your best to be the best person you can be. You should find balance and peace. A way you can find balance and peace in everyday life is when you are arguing with someone. The best thing to do is always find a balance that will best suit both of you. If this doesn't work then you should not fight, you should try to resolve this by finding peace to make both happy. Finding peace is when you try to solve the conflict by saying sorry, and what YOU can do better next time. Not only this, but when you are trying to solve it you should resolve it because you will be the bigger person. This will make you a better person and you will know how to solve conflicts the right way for the rest of your life.
4. Never give up
5. Find peace and balance
6. Live the Golden Rule

The Ten Tips
Ten Tips To Be More Truthful
By: Barbara A. Lewis
1. Make a commitment to tell the truth.
2. Tell someone about your commitment.
3. Think before you give a dishonest answer, explanation, sarcasm, or reason.
4. Be careful of when and how you use exaggeration, sarcasm, or irony.
Reflection: It is not okay to talk back to anyone. When you use exaggeration, sarcasm or irony, it is bad behavior and you will not be liked by some people. When you do this it can be bad and cause you to loose friends, or even just trust. If you are speaking to an adult and you talk back for the wrong reasons, you can be punished. When I speak to anyone I will not use exaggeration, sarcasm, or irony because this can hurt others and hurt myself. I do not want to loose peoples trust, and I don't want to hurt others either.
5. Be careful not to twist the truth or leave out part of it.
6. Don't indulge in little white lies.
Reflection; Lying is a really irresponsible thing to do, know matter how big or small of a lie. Even a little lie can lead to big consequences. When you are told to do something and you know what you're about to say is a lie, stop and think about the consequences, not only towards other people but yourself to. An example of telling a little white lie is, for example, . If your parents left you at home and asked you to clean your room. They call to check on you and you told them you were done when you weren't. Even if you did do it before they got home, lying is still lying you keep telling lies it will become your lifestyle and you will be a custom to lying. What I will do is not lie to anyone. I will always be responsible and say the truth.
7. Watch out for silent lies.
8. When you catch yourself lying, throw your mouth into reverse.
Reflection:
9. Talk to yourself

Reflection: Lying is wrong and you should never lie. This is a strong statement because your conscious will help with all the decisions you make. If before you lie, you tell yourself in your head that lying is wrong and you rethink what your about to lie about. For example, if you are watching TV, and you have not finished your homework. If your mother asks if you're done with your homework, stop and think about it. If you are about to lie you should ask yourself if it is the right thing to do. Then you should tell then truth and do your homework. 10. Treat yourself when you tell the truth

10 Keys to Personal Power
Brian Tracy

Key 1: Clarity
Quote: "Have vision. Determine what you want to be, do or have in life. Have a sense of direction and know where you're going. If you do not have clear specific goals in life, you are doomed forever to work for others who do."
Key 2: Competence
Quote: "If you commit to competence, opportunities will always come your way. The harder you work, the better you get."
Key 3: Concentration
Quote:"Make the best use of your time. Ask yourself "Is this the best use of my time?" before you start anything."
Key 4:Creativity
Quote: "Except the fact that every human being is a genius. The hallmark of creativity is asking questions. The people who are most creative ask the most questions."
Key 5: Consideration
Quote: "The quality of your relationships with other people will determine your success in life."
"Developethe people skills you need to become a better communicator. Take the courses in listening speaking, etc."
"If you were to learn one new word a day, within 5 years, you'll be the best educated person in history."
Key 7: Consistency
Quote: "Dependable, steady predictable work is always superior to fast spurts of work."
"Be consistent in your relationships, your family, friends, your boss, your work. Be the person that people can depend upon. That if you say you'll do something you'll do it."
Key 8: Commitment
Quote: "No success is possible without commitment. The ability to commit yourself whole heartily is the basis of achieving all success."
"Become totally absorbed in your work. Be totally committed."
Key 9: Courage
Quote: "The fear of failure is the single greatest reason for failure."
Key 10: Confidence
Quote: "You only get confidence by doing things over and over again."
Reflection: When you have confidence, you won't let anything stand in your way. When you want to accomplish something it is best to have confidence and believe in yourself. When I am going to take a test I lack confidence because I never believe in myself. If I change that as well as my study habits I am sure to succeed! That is something I would change about myself.
Final Reflection: This series really taught me how I could become a better person. This will help me with accomplishing goals and help me with my confidence. I know there will be conflicts along the way but I will accomplish my goals either way. I want to make sure I try my best and I will not let anything stand in the way. I want to be able to do things by myself and be independent. I will apply these 10 keys to everything I do. Something right now is my math class that is holding me back. I will make sure I try my best and use all 10 keys to insure a great success!

The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People
Stephen R. Covey
Habit 1: Be proactive
Quote: "Habit 1 is they key to unlocking all the other habits and that's why it comes first. It says,"I am the captain of my life. I can choose my attitude. I'm responsible for my own happiness or unhappiness. I am in the driver's seat of my destiny, not just a passenger."
Habit 2: Begin with the end in mind
Quote: "Control your own destiny or someone else will." (Jack Welch)
Habit 3: Put first things first
Quote:"Organize and execute around priorities."
Habit 4: Think Win-Win
Reflection: This quote means a lot because without thinking you can always win, you will not have the right mind set. When you make a goal the right thing to do is to always think positive and always tell yourself you will make it. Otherwise you will never accomplish your goals. This can be compared to everyday life. When you are in school and you have a big exam, you should study and commit, and also in your mind tell yourself you can do it. Without this you will not accomplish your goal. What I will do is I will always think positive and always try my best. Not only that but I will always commit to my goals and always "Think Win-Win".
Habit 5: Seek First to Understand, then to be Understood
Reflection: The only way you will understand is if you listen to others. Listening to others can help with your self. When you are learning a new skill for example, you cannot teach what you are learning until you really understand. What I will do is I will always ask questions until I really understand. This will make me a more positive and helpful -person. I will be able to be understood and I will train myself to understand others.
Reflection: From what I know, when you sharpen the saw you try to balance everything from family to your own health. In the picture for example, I will use what the picture is saying so that I can understand what sharpen the saw means. In this picture, you can see it means sort of a balance. It is saying the body is pure, clean, as in health. It also means, take he time to help others in any way you can! Balancing yourself and family will bring you closer together. Also, having an open mind is beneficial and wanting to learn. When you want to learn you can learn new things, you balance this with everything else like family and yourself. This will make you a stronger person and you will be able to balance everything you have. This can be compared to school, in school you have to learn and sometimes you get packed with homework but if you manage your time well, then you can balance all the other important things in life.
Quote:"Think Win-Win or no deal."
Habit 5: Seek First to Understand, then to be Understood
Quote:"Diagnose before you prescribe."
Habit 6: Synergize
Quote: "The whole is greater than the sum of its parts (1+1=3)."
Reflection: What this quote means to me is being positive and cooperation. When you are working as a team I think you should always stay positive and have good sportsmanship. When you are for example, playing a soccer game, it is good to stay positive, winning is not everything as long as you try and you are having fun. You should always respect your teammates. What I will do is while working in a group I will always have fun and try to make my teammates feel special. I will work well with others!
Habit 7: Sharpen the saw
Quote: Four Dimensions of Self-Renewal: Physical, Mental, Spiritual, Social/Environmental
Overall Reflection:
What I learned while learning "The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People", I learned how to be a better person. When we were learning about how to apply these i learned how to make more friends and how to be a better person. I will always apply these habits because i would like to be friendly and an overall great person.

Three Fundamental Techniques in Handling People
Technique 1: Don't criticize, condemn or complain.
Quote: "If you want to gather honey, don't kick over the beehive."
Technique 2: Give honest and sincere appreciation
Quote: "The big secret in dealing with people"
Technique 3: Arouse in the other person an eager want.
Quote: "He who can do this has the whole world with him. He who cannot, walks a lonely way."
Reflection: When you are speaking to someone you should speak to them like you really want to. Get excited and ask about the other person. Ask about things they like. When doing this it will surly make the other person happy. They will feel like you really do care. I will learn to be nice and be eager to talk to someone. For example, when I'm in an interview I will be eager to talk to the interviewer. When I feel eager I will not be as shy. This is because I want to tell the person things about me and my accomplishments. I will learn to be eager and talk to people more, I will also give honest and sincere appreciation. Along with, not criticizing and complaining. I will be a better person wen it comes to communication and making friends. Overall Reflection:
In "The Three Fundamental Techniques in Handling People", I have learned a lot about speaking to others. When i talk to someone I will not criticize, condemn or complain. I will make sure I am as nice as I can be, and I will also make sure that I am honest. I will be honest and give sincere appreciation. I will not forgot to appreciate because when I talk to someone it will make them feel better and they will trust me more. I will also arouse the other person an eager want. I will get excited to talk to them. I will follow these three steps.
School Break Days
What I did during the break was sleep until 11:00 am. For Christmas we had a dinner at my house and invited a few relatives. When we have a Christmas dinner we make Thanksgiving food like turkey and ham. Christmas eve is when we had our dinner. When It was about 9:00 pm, we all gathered around the living room and opened presents some things that I got was a karaoke machine, headphones, candy, and a heart necklace. We got a lot of presents but the biggest present of all was a family road trip. We went to Las Vegas and stayed at the Stratosphere hotel. It was huge! Unfortunately the rides were closed so we did not get to go on. Other than that it was really fun because there was a mini mall with a lot of places to eat and shop. I read a book by Shane Dawson titled, I Hate My Selfie. This book has a chapter where I tear up and start crying because it is about the passing of his grandmother. Other than that sad chapter along with other sad ones the book has comedy in its sadness. I worked on the IDP during the vacation. This only took a couple hours of my day. There was a man who was homeless and very nice, I gave him some money, and when we were at the hotel someone dropped their belongings and I helped pick everything up. They were happy when I helped. I enjoyed the three week vacation and the time I spent with my family. Friday, December 18, 2015
Final Part 1 of 2
Class/Self Evaluation
In my exploring computer science class, we have learned a lot. Something I enjoyed learning about the most is the quotes and leaning about how to make friends and how to communicate with others. I feel that this helped me because now i use the tips when i am talking to someone and I'm noticing a difference. There is nothing I don't like about this class. I enjoyed being in the class. I feel like I learn a lot and I like our teacher Mr. Haymore. To improve this class I feel that there is really nothing to be improved. It is a pretty easy class. I feel that I tried my best. When we did big assignments I did them to the best of my ability as well as, computer work in general. I am working on being a CTR person because no one is perfect and it will take time for me to always do the right thing. Since I am working in it I am going to commit to being a CTR person.

How to Win Friends and Influence People
(Six Ways to Make People like You. If you want people to like you...)
Rule 1: Become genuinely interested in other people.
1)“Do this and you will be welcome anywhere.”
2)“You can make more friends in two months by becoming interested in other people than you can in two years by trying to get other people interested in you.”
Rule 2: Smile
1) "Actions speak louder than words, and a smile says, "I like you. You make me happy. I am glad to see you."
2) "You don't feel like smiling? Then force yourself to smile."
3)"It creates happiness in the home, fosters good will in a business, and is the countersign (witness or indication) of friends."
Rule 3: Remember names
1)"A man's name is to him the sweetest and most important sound in any language."
2) "If you don't remember names, you are headed for trouble."
Reflection: When you first meet someone the first thing you should ask is their name. You cannot be friend with someone without knowing their name. I like how in the above quote the author stresses how important it is to remember a name. This will get you more friends because when you remember names you will have an easier time talking and enjoying time with them. In order to be successful you need to know the people around you and their names. For example, if you are calling for a job, and the person on the other line stated their name, it is best to remember. Even something as simple as remembering names will get you far in life and give you opportunities. One little minor mistake can ruin something important. You should make sure you remember names so you have a better chance of making friends.
Rule 4: Be a good listener. Encourage others to talk about themselves.
1) "If you aspire to be a good conversationalist, be an attentive listener."
2) "Remember that the man you are talking to is a hundred times more interested in himself and his wants and his problems than he is in you and your problems."

Reflection: When you are talking to someone they more than likely want to talk about themselves. If everyone in the world was like this i think the would would be a better place. When you make friends you want to know and learn about a person, rather than just talk about yourself. This will let the other person know you are interested in them and what they do. Letting them talk will let you know their interest and anything you two may have in common. For example, when you meet someone for the first time you would like to know their interest and hobbies. They will appreciate that you care about them. In the above quotes they are true, even I would like to talk about myself. I would like if someone asked me what my interests are. To apply this to myself I will be asking people I meet about what they like. This will teach me how to talk to others and learn about others.
Five steps for active listening:

Reflection: When you are speaking to someone they would much rather talk about themselves. When you talk about the other person, it will let them know you are interested in what they like. Even I would much rather talk about myself. When you actively listen you can apply this and show the other person that you care. Along with actively listening this will show the other person that you care. For example, when you are having a conversation, you can start the conversation by asking, "What are your interest?". Not only can you ask this but after that answer you can ask more questions on why they like that and further more get into greater detail. To apply this to myself I will start talking and asking questions about the other person. I will do this rather than just thinking about myself. This skill will help me when making new friends, talking to my friends or significant other, and even an interview. I will learn how to talk to the other person and also ask questions on the things they like.
Rule 6: Make the other person feel important-and do it sincerely.
"The desire to be important is the deepest urge in human nature."(John Dewey) "Helping people feel important and appreciated works magic."
Reflection: When you are speaking to a person, you will talk about their interests and make them feel important. In order to do this you can talk to them like you are interested in what they like. But be sincere when you talk to them and show that you care. If you show them that you care then you will be trusted and respected. That person will begin to love talking to you when you are interested in them. What I will do is I will start making the person I'm talking to feel important. I will create conversations based on what they like. This will help me make more friends and help me learn to start conversations.
2) "If you don't remember names, you are headed for trouble."
Rule 4: Be a good listener. Encourage others to talk about themselves.
1) "If you aspire to be a good conversationalist, be an attentive listener."
2) "Remember that the man you are talking to is a hundred times more interested in himself and his wants and his problems than he is in you and your problems."
Five steps for active listening:
- Stay focused, don't judge, be patient and make direct eye contact
- Really listen, don't think of what you will tell next
- Allow for periods of silence, let the other person say something again
- From time to time, repeat the other persons word or paraphrase it back to them
- Understand the emotions behind the words, try to express their feeling
Rule 5: Talk in terms of the other man's interest.
"The royal road to a man's heart is to talk about the things he treasures the most."
Rule 6: Make the other person feel important-and do it sincerely.
"The desire to be important is the deepest urge in human nature."(John Dewey) "Helping people feel important and appreciated works magic."
Reflection: These "Six Ways to Make People Like You" are so crucial in learning how to communicate and make friends with others. You first need to become genuinely interested in the person. I was talking to my mom and i was asking her questions about her day. She seemed to want to talk to me. This made her want to tell me more about her day. When you become genuinely interested others will notice and want to tell you more like about their interests, or even about their opinions on some things. They will trust you more. Smiling is also very important because this can instantly make a persons day. This can let a person know how important they are to you and this will help them trust you more. I smile at people so this allows them to feel like they can trust me. Remembering names can also help because when you remember names you will not forge the people you talk to. Listening is also very important because when you listen you can learn more about a person and you can even ask questions about what they like or anything else. I feel that when you ask questions this shows you are interested on what the other person likes. The last one is talking in terms of the other persons interest. What this does is encourages the other person to speak about what they like. This will later start more conversations and you will love talking to that person. I will apply the six ways to my life.
